INVERCABGILL RACES. The second day's races were brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday, when there was a large attendance of the public, who freely patronised the totalisator. The total investments on which were £5681 for the two days. Following were the results Hurdles of 35sovs, one mile and a-half.-Southerly Buster, lOst 121b, 1; Hairtrigger, 9st 101b, 2; Waikaia, 10st 51b, 3. Won easily. Time—3min 3sec. Dividend, £1 10s. Two Mile Harness Trot of 35sovs.—Mistake, 27seo, 1; Bedale, 28sec, 2 ; Norseman, Bsec, 3. Won by eight lengths. Time — smin 44 4-ssec. Dividends, £2 12s and £2 7s. Southland Handicap of 60sovs, one mile and a distance. —Gleneig, Ost 51b, 1; Sirius, 9st 21b, 2 ; Belligerent, Bst 41b, 3. Won very easily by two lengths. Time—2rnin lOsec. Dividend, £2 3s. Hack Race of 25sovs, seven furlongs.— Avenue, Bst 71b, 1; Enticer, 7st 41b, 2 ; Cackle, Oat 101b, 3. Avenue led throughout and won by half a length. Time—lmin 37sec. Dividends, £1 Ills and £3. Shorts Handicap of 40sovs, five furlongs. —Picket, Bst, 1; Tugela, Bst 101b, 2; Donna Rosa, 9st 51b, 3. This was the best race of the day, Picket winning by a length after a splendid tussle up the straight. Time—lmin 7 l-ssec. Dividends, £5 15s and £1 15s.'

One Mile Saddle Trot of 30sovs. —Fichu, 2sec, 1; The Banker, l'Jsec, 2; Louis, 23-ec, 3. Fichu had no trouble in winning by six lengths. Time—2min342-asec. Dividends, £5 10s and £1 2s.

Hack Welter of 20sovs, six furlongs.— Violin, Bst, 1; Avenue, 10.10, 2 ; Cackle, 7st 71b, 3. Time—lmin 22 l-ssec. Dividends, £3 lis and £3 ss. Farewell Handicap of 3- r >sovs, ono mile.— Tugela, Bst lib, 1; Vulcan, 7st 51b, 2 ; Belligerent, Bst, 3. Time—lmin Dividend, £3 15s. GORE TROTTING CLUB. A committee meeting of the Gore Trotting Club was held last evening, Mr D. Collins (president) in the chair, when several matters in connection with the club's annual meeting to be held on the 21st and 22nd insls. were attended to. Messrs Mason and Son were engaged to work the totalisator, and it was decided that a £1 machine be ran inside and a 10s one outside, and thiU in trots in which there were seven or more starters dividends be paid out on first and second horses. The privileges are to be sold by Messrs Wright, St6phenson and Co. on Friday at 2.30 p.m. Special train arrangements are promised for both days, and particulars of these will be advertised later on.

Nominations closed last evening, and as will be seen these are highly satisfactory. For the ten races comprising the programme 155 nominations have been received, and amongst these are some of the best trotters in Otago and Southland. For the Gore Cup of 85sovs., one mile, to be run in heats, no less than 17 nominations have been received, and the class of horses which have so far paid up is much above the average, and with a fair percentage of starters, this event should provide some excellent sport. Handicaps for the first day will be declared on Monday.
