DUNEDIN WOOL SALE. ■'
The fifth and last wool sale of the season was held at Dunedin on ■Thursday. A total of 674 bales were forward, comprising late shorn wool and odd lots from • up-country, which, although early shorn, did not reach Dunedin in time for the last sale ; also clips off stragglers and oddments. There was a good attendance, and, in view of the discouraging reports from London and the bad condition of many of the lots submitted, there was very animated and well sustained competition for every lot offered. For fine wools' — fleece, pieces, and locks, free of burr — the local manufacturers were strong competitors, and thej bulk of this claBS was secured Dy them. All sorts, however, met with good competition, and almost every lot was cleared at full market values, fully up to and in many cases beyond equivalent values in London. Greasy merino sold up to 10^d per lb ; greasy half bred sold up to 9|d per lb; greasy crossbred sold up to'BJd per lb ; greasy merino, pieces, sold up to BJd per lb ; greasy crossbred, pieces, sold up to 6Jd per lb.
