SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS OF OTAGO.
1 . The monthly meeting of the School Commissioners of Otago was attended by all the members, Mr J. P. Maitland in the chair. Mr Baldy was authorised to arrange with the Southland County Colmcil to obtain a report from their engineer as to the best way of dealing with tho encroachments of the Mataura river at Cattle Flat." Mr Baldey was appointed to arrange with a suitable person to value the fencing on run 100 a, lOGn, 100 c, Takitimo, and that these runs be offered at auction at an early date. It was resolved to allow Mr Colin Robertson £15 remission ol rent of section 31, block 9, Waikaia, on account of damage done by tbo overflowing of the Domeburn. A report recommending revaluation of tbe rents of holdings in blocks 3, 4, and 5, Wendonside, was approved and adopted. It was decided to lease by auction section 3, block 11, Wendon, concerning which an application to mine lignite had been received. The secretary was instructed to ask Mr J. White why he hod^brokon tbe terms of his lease by allowing' milling for lignite on section 12, block S, Wendon, and to show cause why his lease should not be cancelled. Mr A. D. Macgregor's application for a coal license on section 11, block 10, Waikaia, was declined. The coal licenses held by Messrs Baxter, Evans, Vial Bros., and Mrs Mclvor were renewed. Resolved to ask Mr A. Alexander to supply fuller information as regards the length of bank requiring protection on section 3, block 13, Wendon. Resolved that sections 1, block fi, aiid 1, block 3, Toi Tois, be grouped and offered for a term. Mr H. Bcggs was granted leave to straighten Grassy Creek, on the Wairaki run, the Commissioners, however, declining responsibility. Accounts amounting to £36 lis lOd were passed for payment.
