St. Alexander (No 9397, CSB, vol XIV), imported last year ex s.s. Thermopylae, from London, is a handsome bay horse, foaled sth May, 1889, stands on short, beavy -boned legs, with lots of hair, a docile temper, and grand aotion. He was bred by Alex. Blaok, -fi-q., Oraigenerosh, Stranraer. His sire, St. Lawrence (3220, CSB), grandsire Prince of Wales (673), winner of first prizo at tbe Highland and Agricultural Society's show at Edinburgh in 1869; second at Dumfries in 1870 ; first at Kelso in 1872, and firat at t c Royal, at Manchester, in 1869. He was sold for L 945 when 18 years old. His stock have been very successful prizetakers. G grandsire General (322), winner of firat prize at tbe Highland Society's (.how at Inverness in 1865 ; g g grandsire Sir Waiter Scott (797), won first prize at the Highland and Agricultural Society's show at Dumfries in 1860, and the premium at the International Sho*, held at Battersea ; ggg grandsire Old Clyde alias Clyde Boy (574), won third prize at the Highland and Agricultural Society's Show at Aberdeen in 1858, and tbe Haddington premium the same year. St. Alexander's dam Sally (194), by Lord Lyon (489), was commended at tbe High land Sooiety's Show at Edinburgh in 1869 j grand dam Maggie (20), by Samson (740) ; g grand dam Sally by Biggar (45); gg grand dam Maggie, by Clyde (155), winner of tbe first prize ab the Highland Society's Show at Glasgow in 1841 St. Alexander's dam Silly is grand dnm of Prince Alexander (8899), who is now one of the most noted prizetakers in Scotland, having gained the ohampion premium at tho Highland Society's Show, Dundee, in 1890, the champion premium at the Royal Society of England's Show, 1891 ; the Girvan and Ayr premium 1892, and the Cawdor challengo cup nt the Glasgow Stallion show same year. He is now stand* ing at L2O a mare. St. Alexander gained the Dumfries premium last year. He is one of the best Clydesdales that ever left Sootland, and from his great strength, heavy bone, and good quality, ought to make a name for himself at tbe stud and in the show rings of the colonies, This hole's colts and fillies gained prizes at the Dumfries Show last season.
