THE ATHENAEUM.
• ■*» TO THIS EDITOB, Sir,— -I see the aannal meeting for the election of officers is fixed for Thursday evening, but the Committee appear to have omitted to give instrnctions for circulars to the members— at least nooe of my friends have got notice. Will you kindly give the matter a, littie more publicity in your leading columns, becaus9 of late the Ati.er.ceam seems to have fallen under the government of a Society of Aniiquariane, and the institution is in a state of torpor. There are neither new books, new ideas, nor any order. Still, it is possible to revive it. The idea is that the Antiquarians who last year retarded tbe hands of tho clock shonld be dispersed ; that a la.iy should take the chair, and the Committee should be half and half. Tbe ladies may be o. any age if single, but no gentlemau over 25 will be eligible. Let us have progress. — Yours, Maby. ■miw i _umujwMwii-pii— » ii i ii in »ii i
