KELSO.
Last evening we were favored with slight showers and to-day (Wednesday) a considerable murkiness prevails. A thorough good day's rain would benefit the country greatly. All the superphosphates »b 4 Pora} CJ?ano in existence are of little avail unless well supplemented with heaven's rain. I only know two things rain does not improve : one is a lady's dress, and tbe other— never mind we don't use it here, nowwell, whisky I I see Mr Mackenzie, of Glenkenich station, is offering a reward re malicious and false reports regarding his horse St. Alexander. It seems, indeed, poor ancouragement to Mr Mackenzie, who has brought his horse here at a very great 1 expense, to have an animal of such un- 1 questionable reputation maligned. A few days ago I had the pleasure of inspecting Mr Y(. Abram's pure Clydesdale colt liberator ' (two 'years' old). Several who have seen this colt pronounce him the best in the district, his well-known sire Lard Lyon giving him an extra prestige. Iv any case the youngster is in the very bauds of the man who can " bring him out," and doubtless iv the forthcoming prize-rings be will make his mark. '' X spe o»r l^elsp frorge, Salisbury's Champion, has returned from his maiden journey and looking particularly well. TUe groom in charge informs me his success has exceeded his best expectations.
