ESCAPE OF GASPARINI.
INDIGNATION OF- THE FRENCH CONSU L-GENERAL.

Tlio Detective authorities here do not at all boliovotiiat Gasparini jumped overboard on the voyage of the Wakatipu from Wellington to Sydney, and arc of opinion that as ho was only convicted of fraudulent bankruptcy he was able to command plenty of money and sympathy, and tho detectives believe that Gasparini was on board tho Wakatipu when search was fruitlessly made for him. The French Consul-General here has expressed indignation at tho action of a Minister of the Crown in New Zealand, who, it is stated, prominently concerned himself in Gasparini’s behalf in reference to raising subscription to defray the cost of applying for a writ of haleas corpus for the release of the [ prisoner in Sydney. An official communication has been received by the Consul-General stating that the Minister referred to cGhye?sed [ with Gasparini on the Wellington I wharf just prior to the departure of the steamer Wakatipu, and that ho also gave messages to the dGtectivo who wa3 in charge of the prisoner. An attache to the Consulate states that he savy a man resembling Gasparini in the streets of Sydney after the arrival of the Wakatipu, and called the attention of Dotective Walker to the circumstance, but he denied that the man was Gasparini. The attache adheres to the belief that this man was Gasparini
