The filly was not duly transferred to Marshall’s name, and when the first forfeit became duo she was withdrawn with tho other of the Company’s nominations. Marshall now takes action on the ground that the Company had no right to scratch the filly even though ho had not procured a trail for. Tho directors of the Moauatairi Mine resolved to reform the Company, to put shares on tho market here, and resume operations at once, Chbihtchukcii, Sept 20.

When the s s. Penguin was entering Lyttelton Heads this morning she picked up a small boat in which wore a knito, fishing lino, bait and tw° oars. It was brought to Lyttelton and identified by the owner, J. liaydon, who had left it moored in Darnpior’s Bay last night, no bait, line or knife being in it, It is supposed some boy took the boat to fish and has been drowned. No ono is reported missing yet. The Tainui sailed for London to-day, with 10 saloon, Id second cabin and 11 steerage passengers and a full cargo, including 17,000 carcases of frozen mutton. Hokitika, Sept 10 The Supremo Court closed to-day, and Judge Ward is returning to Christchurch to-morrow morning. lu the case referred to yesterday, a non-suit was taken, and a number of leaseholders have consequently no titles, and tho Validatim Act will bo necossary.
