Mr Tyser of Tyser ancl Co lias joined the Board of Directors of the shipping ring and, will undertake the management of the New Zealand office. Shares are now being allotted in tho Champion Gold and Silver Mining Company. The plenipotentiaries at tho sugar bounties conference after a prolonged sitting have adjourned until 27th instant, and in the meantime the questions raised will be referred to the respective Governments.
The cricket match between the Australians and Nottingham was resumed to-day. The wicket was iu splendid condition and 10,000 people were present to witness tho match. The Nottingham team, who had lost two wickets for 118 runs, continued their innings, and when stumps wore drawn thoy had lost six wickets for .‘359 runs. Tlie principal scorers were Gunn 91, Barnes 90.

The first innings for Nottingham closed for 144 runs. Tho Australians liave lost 1 wicket for 4 runs.
A desperpte resistance was offered to evictions at New Ross. Wexford. The tenants erected earthworks and dug trenches round their houses, and offered every resistance to the authorities. The emergency men, who were assisted by the police with fixed bayonets, were repeatedly repulsed. Eventually the house took fire and the defenders wore compelled to emerge when several arrests were made. New Yore, Aug 16.
Tho steamers Tlilmvalla and Geiser came into coP'sion off Sable Island, 90 miles south-east of Nova Scotia, during tho night. The Geiser sustained serious injury, and sark within a few minutes. Seventy-two of tho passengers and 33 of the crew going down with the vossel. There were 31 survivors from sunken steamer and these along with 4.50 passen gers on board the Thimvalla were taken on board tho steamship Willend and brought bore. The Thimvalla sustained damage in tho collision and tho captain decided to mako for Halifax Nova Scotia.

Two Trench Indies had a quarrel owing to jealousy and they ultimately fought a duel with pistols which resulted in both being rather seriously wounded. Sydney, Aug 19.
A crisis is imminent at Jirookong station, owing to the difficulty among shearers. A night attack is expected, and it is feared that tho result will cud in bloodshed. The besieged force number 300, while the defending force is comparatively small.

The railway department liavc been promised an unlimited supply of coal from Tasmania. The threatened strike has caused New Zealand coal to advance Ids per ton.
