Ferris secured five wickets for 38, Turner four for 38, Boyle one for 12. At the close of the day’s play the Australians had lost five wickets for 55. The following were.the Australian scores: M'Dounell 5, Bannerman not out 9, Trott 18, Blackham 2, Turner not out 3, sundries 3. About 30,000 spectators were present during the day’s play. The match against the Gentlemen of Scotland, fixed for 12th July at Edinburgh, has fallen through. A match has been fixed for that date at Stoke between the Australian Eleven and an eleven of England. Sir John Pender has had an interview with Lord Knutsford relative to laying an alternative cable to Perth. At the Lambert Conference the discussion on the doctrinal standards will be opened by ( the Right Rev Dr Barry of Sydney. In the House of Commons Baron de Worms announced that the Government of New Zealand had agreed to join the Sugar Bounty Convention.

Sir E. Dillon Bell has suggested that an Australian Pleuepotentiary should visit Pekin to arrange an amicable settlement of the Chinese difficulty after an agreement shall have been arrived at between tho colonies and the Imperial Government on the subject. It is understood that the suggestion has been received very favorably iu official
circles. The Times has served a on Lord Hartington calling upon him to produce all the papers with reference to the National League for the purposes of defending Mr O’Donnell’s libel action.
