On the motion of Mr Ward, the tender of p. Aliearn for Deep Creek, and H. G. Daikee for Tua Marina, was accepted. PICTON SCHOOL. Two tenders were received for repairs to the Picton school, but members generally concurred that the amount of the lowest tender was too much to spend on one school. Mr Douslin, who was present at the meeting, said that in his estimates for (he work he had included a new water supply, and had allowed for a well to be sunk to a depth of about 70 feet. Mr Henderson thought that if the Board put in a well it would he a continual source of trouble and expense. He moved, That fresh tenders be called for the work, and that arrangement® be made in the specifications for collecting the rain water from the roof of the building, and that two 400-gallon tanks be provided for that purpose. The motion was seconded by Mr Parker and carried. CORRESPONDENCE. From N. T. From Edward Ensor, Secretary of the Endeavor Inlet School Committee, stating that tbc following persons were elected a school committee for the following year : Messrs J. E. Wearne (chairman), J. N*al, J. J. Bowen, Wm. Haining, Thomas Bright, Henry Williams and Edward Ensor (secretary). —Letter Received. From the Treasury, Wellington, informing the Board that the sum of LIO3 10s lOd had been remitted to the Board’s credit, being capitation and inspection payments for April. Communication received. NO COMMITTEE. A letter was read from C. Beauchamp, stating that be was sorry to say that he was notable to get any of the inhabitants of the district to form a school committee for Anakiwa, Queen Charlotte’s Sound. Tho Secretary explained that that was the second meeting called, and it was now for tho Board to appoint a committee. It was proposed by Mr Paul, and carried, That Mr Beauchamp be appointed by the Board to act as Commissioner. RESIGNATION. Miss Mary Bary wrote informing the Board that she had been appointed Head Mistress of the Girls’ School, Charleiton; she therefore forwarded her resignation by giving a month’s notice, which would terminate on the Bth J vine. She expressed her regret at leaving the Board’s service, and also thanked the Board for the gradual promotion she had received during the seven years she had been in their service.

It was decided to accept Miss Bary’s resignation.

THE ODD BCIIOOLIIOUSE, GROVE. Mr C. Beauchamp, Chairman of tho School Committee, Queen Charlotte Sound, wrote in reply to the Board’s letter of 13th April : The value of the old schoolhouso at the Grove, as it stood, was about Ll2. If lot, its value would depend upon the amount of land attached to tho building. He thought it undesirable to sell the building, if it was contemplated to sell the land. It did not appear from surrounding circumstances that tho building would bo required for school purposes. If tho building was sold it would detract from the value to let except to a proprietor of an adjoining property. He did not think the building was dangerous to the adjoining properties.—No action was taken in the matter.

Tho Secretary of the Blenheim Borough Schools Committee wrote, in accordance with motions passed at tho meeting of the Committee hold on May 31st, recommending that Miss Linton be appointed to till tho vacancy occasioned by tho resignation of Miss Bary; forwarding duplicate copies of books required in the Boys’ and Girls’ School, hoping that the Board would take into consideration tho enlargement of the east and west wings of the Borough upper schools, as accommodation was re quiredforat least 60 more pupils. Ho also called the attention of tho Board to the condition of tho roofing of the Infant School, the same requiring to boro-roofed with iron. As regarded the roofing of the building, the Chairman thought tho work ought certainly to be done. This was tho opinion of most of the members, and on the motion of Mr Paul, seconded by Mr Parker, it was decided to call for tenders or roofing the Infant School with iron, specifications to be piepared by the architect. THE STAFF OF THE BOROUGH SCHOODS. Miss Mary Linton applied for permission to remain on the staff of the Blenheim Borough schools until a suitable vacancy occurred. Last month she cornnleted her four years’ apprenticeship under the Marlborough Board, during which period she had passed all her anm.tl examinations. She was also the holder of a complete “ E ” certificate. It was moved by Mr Hutcheson, seconded by Mr Paul, and carried. I hat Miss Linton be appointed to fill the vacancy at a salary of LGO per annum. An application was received for an appointment on tho staff, but members thought that, in view of the probability of the school age being raised, it would be better to defer consideration of the application until next meeting, when _ they would likely have some definite information on the subject. As regarded the question of increased accommodation, the Board wished to have more information on the subject. • THE INSPECTOR’S REPORT.

In accordance with the request of the Board, the head teachers of the Blenheim Girls’ School (Miss M. Morgan),Waitohi School (Mr Murray), and Kekerangr. School (Mr Andrews), forwarded to the Board lengthy explanations for the failure

of the respective schools at the recent examination. On the motion of Mr seconded by Mr Hutcheson, it was decided to acknowledge receipt of the letters, and to inform (he writers of them that they would be forwarded to Mr Hodgson for his consideration : and also to inform tho Waituhi School Committee that the Board did not see its way clear to take any further steps in the matter of the dispute with the teacher. After tiie p using of the teachers salaries for tho month, and a few other accounts, the Board adjourned.
