(Per Press Association). Wellington, Juno 1. Tne charge of sheep stealing prefer ed against Richard Smith, a well-known settler at Pahautanui, was partly heard to-day, and further adjourned. Subscribers to the Penny Dinner Fund have sent to England L2o for the poorest school children in London. The exact amount of Customs revenue collected during tho past month is not yet known, as returns from Kaipara and Tauranga have not yet been received. The amount known to have been collected is L 143,580 0s lOd, the principal contributions being: Dunedin, L 38.390 10s lid; Auckland, L 32,264 Ss 4d ; Lyttelton and Christchurch, L 27,887 2s 8d ; and Wellington, L23,31S 3s 9d. The amount collected in April of this year was L 101,553 I7s, so that last month’s collections top it by over LIO,OOO. The estimate was L 104.160 13s 4d.
