(Per Press Association.) Chhistchuech, May 2. At theft.M. Court Martha French was sentenced to one month’s hard labor, and John Connor to twelve months’ hard labor, for receiving goods stolen by two young sons of French and a lad named William Gosling. The boys were sent to tbo industrial school. The evidence shewed that they had been in the habit of pilfering articles from shop doors and taking them to Mrs French or Connor. Mrs French, it was proved, had been receiving charitable aid whilo she had L 36 in the Savings Bank.

Grexmoutii, May 2. In the Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday, M'Parland, storekeeper, was charged with a breach of the 27th bye-law made by the Minister of Public Works, under authority of the 144th section of “ The Public Works Act, 1832,” for placing certain explosive goods on a railway train without specifying the particulars on the consignment note. The Magistrate held that the Minister had no power under section 144 to mako any byelaw imposing a penalty for such an offenco,. and that bye-law 27 was ultra vires. The information was dismissed. A woman who has shown a suicidal tendency escaped from the hospital last Saturdav, and has not since been hoard * of. '
