Bor Press Association, Auckland, March 1. Tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board have declined a request from the Seamen s Union, who asked that members of tho latter body be treated at the hospital free of charge for all ailments except accidents sustained on board their vessels, on condition that the Union pay £25 per annum to the Hospital Board. The recent outbreak of typhoid fever is attracting attention. Tho most extensively affected ward is that of Ponsonby, and to-day a tour of inspection was mado of that portion of the city, where several fever beds have been discovered. At the City Council this evening it was resolved to take measures to remedy this state of matters in order to prevent the possibility of an epidemic of typhoid. The steamers Eagle and Osprey base been sold privately to the Dcvonport Ferry Co. for £OOOO. W, E. Bar ton, the well-known cricketer, left for Blenheim to-day. A new Company, with the title ot Askkaw Molloy Gold’ and Silver Extraction Co was formed to-day, when D. G. M‘Donnel was appointed legal manager. Messrs Chambers, Keep, Sped, Wilson, Douglas and Ralph were appointed directors. 0 A general manage?' and a metal-m-o-ist were appointed. The principal object of the Company is to acquire tailings or Thames foreshore, and treat the same "by Askhaw’s patent pulveriser arid t ho Hydro Amalgam Company’s pans, pnown as the Molloy patent.

The Lake Elieswcre 'fishermen are strenuously resisting a proposal to close the lake against net fishing. Ibis a.tcinoon some of them interviewed tho Hon. E. O. fh Stevens aud requested him io lay their wishes before the Government, and stated that the Lake fisheries gave employment to 250 men with 20 boats. Mr Stevens promised to communicate with Government, and recommended them to get up a petition on the subject.
