The Federal Council.
Per Electric Telegraph—Copgright United Press Association. Received Jan 23, 10.30 p.m. Melbourne, Jan 23. The Argus defends the Eederal Council from tho remarks of the Times, and points to that and other English papers which have condemned the New South Wales attitude in naming the colony Australia as unpatriotic. The Argus contends that the Eederal Council was instituted rather for a conference on intercolonial subjects than for legislation, but the latter avoids the delay requisite for Imperial interference, as evinced by the promptitude with which Queensland has got control over the pearl fisheries.
