THE Marlborough Times. PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1887. Carselves.

It is not often that newspapers obtrude tlioir personality on their readers. There are occasions, however, in which they may fairly claim that indulgence, and the change in the proprietary of this journal, elsewhere announced, will, wo presume, free us from a charge of egotism in alluding thereto, and afford a good reason for departing from what, under ordinary circumstances, is a sound rule.. It is needless to recapitulate a history of this journal during the eleven years of its existence, as our readers arc well aware of the vicissitudes through which it has passed ; suffice it to say that we may claim to have been actuated by a desire to honestly represent public opinion, and give that attention to the varied interests of this large district which its importance demand. The nowfirm desire to say that it will be their earnest endeavor to fearlessly aud independently carry out their duty as journalists, and faithfully record public opinion without fear or favor. While continuing to espouse tho Liberal cause in politics, the Times will reserve to itself the right to freely criticise the partisans of any political creed, holding that “measures, not men,” is a sound maxim.
