Tho weather was glorious, but tb wicket was hard and anything bi perfect. The Wairaus worn captained b Branson, and the Blenheims by bhiptoi Mr Fislior umpired for the former and M Farmar for the losers. Thu match wfi anything but interesting, it being such ono-sided affair. Tho bowling through out on both sides was far superior to th batting. Ganuvun, Tucker, Lucas Graco, M‘lvor and Sathcrly all trundle well at limes. Thu batting hunors, i there wore any, wero divided between Northcroft and Grace. Tho fiuldinj Bhowed a slight improvement on proviou matches, but at times it was rather bad t Mr Branson won tho toss, and elected ti bat, sending in Grace and Northcroft Tho former took tho first over fron Satherly, and made the first run of tin match by placing one to tho on for f single, and got another from an over throw through bad fielding. Ganavai: trundlod from tho other end, and was hi: for a couple to log by Graco. Northcrofl shortly afterwards gave a difficult clianci to point, and Gracu fullowed up by giving a most easy catch to short leg. Both met wero let off, and to show his gratitude Grace hit Canavon to leg for If. Northcroft hit Satherly to long leg all along tin carpet for a like number. The bowler, however, soon had Ills revenge, and disposed of Grace—lß1 —8. The batsman played very nicely, and was a good man got rid of. Branson filled the vacancy, and was not long before bo commenced operations, bis first hit being a beauty to long leg. Runs were now coming in by singles until Northcroft got too much under one of Ganavau’s and lifted it in the air to the on, and the batsman retired —82 —2 —lo. His innings cannot bo calludfaulthws, as lie was let oir on two occasions. Tovey joined Bnu.son, and tlio latter spooned Canavun irio M‘lvor’s hands and point 32 —8 -6. Tho Doctor joined the stone waller, and after cutting Ganavan for a couple of two’s was beautifully caught behind by Sliijiton, 80—4 —l. Grump filled the vacancy, and the game became very slow, runs coming in by singles. A good chance was given to run out Grump, but the wicketkeeper fumbled the ball. Sathcrly was taken off, and Andrews took his place, but runs still came in, and 50 was shown on tho telegraph. Sixty was hoisted next, and Tucker relieved Caimvau and shortly afterwards disposed of Crump, 68—5—10. Mowat joined Tovey, and was sent to the right-about with his second ball, OS —6—o. Hillman became Tovey’s partner, and after smoking Tucker for a single spooned one into Cunavan’s hands at mid on, and retired, O'.) - 7—l. M'lver wont in next and drove bis first for a single, but two wero obtained through bad lidding. Runs still caino in, and 80 was seen on the board. Bath batsmon appeared well set, particularly Tovey, who, though lie was not showing anything brilliant in tho way of batting, set up a most determined defence. At last an appeal from tho umpire sent M'lvor away l.b. w. Cross, after feeling liis way, hit one hard to the outfield and gave Read a chance, which was not taken advantage of. Tucker, however, had revenge shortly afterwards, bowling him with a curly one, 00 o—7.
