Tkaxsfeebed. —At the adjourned meeting of the Awatere Licensing Committee a "transfer of the license of the Jordan Accommodation House from J. W. Patterson to P. B. Bax was granted. Public Works Statement. —Contrary to expectation tho Public Works Statement instead of being short was a little longer than usual and wo must compliment the Blenheim Telegragli Department upon the excellent manner in which the message was received. UiC Statement contained 14,000 words and was received at the rate of 8o words a minute. It was started on the wires at Wellington at 8 o’clock and wav written oif here at 2o minutes past 10. Tho statement was received on three wives, the operators in tho local oiiicc being Messrs W. Poole, Baird and Hay who are to be complimented upon tho manner in which they handed over their “copy.” Local Industry. —lt is alwavs pleasant to see any person opening out new i: ues of industry, and Mr V. C. Vcuimore, of Havelock deserves great praise for the successfi -1 kaleidoscopes he is now inakmg. Mr Porn’s Lecture.— By an advertisement which appears iu another column it will bo seen that Mr Pope will deliver a lecture at Ewart’s Hull on Saturday evening next on Robert Emmet, the Irish patriot martyr of 1802. Mr Pope is a native of New Zealand, but of Irish extraction, and possessed of considerable histrionic ability and an eloquent and excellent speaker. His lecture should be i: stened to not only by Irishmen, hut by the New Zealand born sons of Irishmen,
