CRICKET.

ricroN school v. Blenheim school. Tlicro was n cricket match played on Saturday between tbe Pietmi and Blenheim Soil nils, which was witnessed by a good sprinkling of people. The youngsters showed very fair fo.m, particularly in bowling and fielding, but their execution with tho bat was rather poor, a fact no doubt attributable to using full sized bats. It would be far better for boys if they played with smaller bats, because it is impossible that a boy, at any rate a young one, can use his wrists with a bat that is intended for a man. Amongst the youngsters there are a number of promising colts, and if they are only taken in hand and coached should turn out good ■cricketers. The Pioton hoys went in first and were disposed of for a dozen, but tho Blenheim youths only managed to get 11. In the second innings tho visitors showed better form, and treated Mr Lucas’ contingent to a good deal ol leather hunting. The Blenheim in their second innings were not so fortunate, Mr Howard’s representatives being too good with the ball; one youngstor in particular bowled really well, having a nice delivery and a good pitched ball. Mr Simpson umpirod for Blenheim and Mr Allen for Piobon. After the match tho visiting boys wero entertained at lunch at the Club Hotel, when a very pleasant half hour was spoilt. Annexed are the scores :
