ARREST OE WILLIAM O’BRIEN

O’Brien's dispute, 8000 assembled in tlie centre of Mitcholltown, and among these were Messrs Labouchere and Condon, as well as several other members of the House of Commons A dozen of police were officiary escorting- a reporter, and being ■ hustled, strongly resisted interference. The police were reinforced, and in their attempts to arrest the ringleaders the crowd furiously resisted, and bludgeons and stones were used, seriously injuring many The police wore driven into the barracks, the crowd stoning and surrounding the building. Subsequently the police sailed forth and fired iuto the mob, killing two and wounding four. The military dispersed the crowd. September 11. Numbers of mounted and unmounted Limerick and Tipperary peasants attended the meeting at Mitchelltown. Hundreds of the rioters dipped their handkerchiefs in the blood of the victims, and took their departure, flaunting banners and headed by bands playing lively airs. Mr Balfour stated in the House of Com mono that Mr Condon’s remarks were the signal for a brutal attack on the police, who were compelled to fire in selfdefence, and that the Irish political leaders were mainly responsible for the riot. Mr O’Brien was to-day taken to Cork, where he was charged with inciting tenants to resist the law, and was remanded and imprisoned, bail being refused. REUTER’S TELEGRAMS. Losdon, Sept 12. MrO’Brien was arrested at Kings-? town last night, and at once con voyed to Dublin. From thonce he will bo removed to Mitehelltown to answer the charge preferred against him. Deceived Sept 13, at 5.30 p.m. /' Sept 12. A serious affray has takon plaoe in County Clare/ Ireland, between a party of Moonlighters and the police. In the courso of the fight the head constable of Ennis was killed. Tho police finally succeeded in arresting eight of the moonlighters.
