Mr McGuire, .»f Hawera, addressed a largely attended meeting last niUit, when lie advocated handiug orer to the Government the New- Plymouth harbour. He contended that the Colony was in duty bound to take it over, owing to Parliament having inflicted an injustice oi the settlers as well as the bond] holders, by changing the tenure of land after it had been pledged for harbour purposes to the British creditors. Ha showed that the harbour was the only place of refuge for vesse’s on the West Coast seaboard of fifteen hundred miles and that it would therefore benefit tha Colony to complete it. He showed that the assets in the fourth of the land revenue, with land at disposal, would ba a profit to the Colony in the transaction* A Committee was appointed to agitata the proposal.
