HANLAN AND BEACH. THE CABLE QUESTION THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE, (Reuter’s Telegrams) Sidney, Friday. Articles have been signed for a sculling race between Ilanlan and Beach, to be rowed on the Nepean river in November next for LSOO a-side. Melbourne, Friday. In the annual report of the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce published to day in Committee without endorsing Sir Julius Vogel’s scheme for purchasing the cables uphold his proposal that a conference of Postmaster’s General of the different Australasian colosliall he held for the purpose of discussing tho cable question and declared that such a conference can scarcely fail to be productive of good. A Conference of representatives of the different municipalities of Victoria was held in Melbourne to-day, for the purpose of discussing the question of the Jubilee Celebration. The delegates, however, were not disposed to carry out any elaborate celebration, believing that they had no power legally to expend the ratepayers funds for such a purpose.
