Terrible Disaster at Sea.

COLLISION OF TWO STEAMERS LIST OF PASSENGERS 43 DROWNED Reuter’s Telegrams, Sydney, Dec 9. The steamers Helen Nicoli and Keilawarra came into collision last night off Trial Bay, on the coast of this Colony. The Keilawarra sank in seven minutes. The captain and thirty-five of the crew and passen gers went down in her, Three of the Helon Nicoll’s crew are missing. The Keilawarra was of 1000 tons, owned by Howard Smith and Co, Limited. Received Dec 9 at 2.40 p.m The Keilawarra was bound from this port to Brisbane and the Helen Nicoli was coming from Grafton to Sydney The Keilawarra had 25 passengers, and the Helen Nicoli Was severely damaged by (he collision and put into Trial Bay, The names of the Keilawarra’s passengers are as follows:—A family of eight named Scheffer, Mrs Johnston and child, Misses Calder, Gallagher and Bulfin, Messrs Wilson, Copland, A. James, Scott, Lough, McGrade, McDonald, Nott and 11 steerage. The names of the saved are—Preece, Barton, Lodge, Lough, Greaves, Copland, James, Connolly, Maher, Oorby, Sucurr, Gray, Young and Nott, besides others unknown. Received Dec 9th at 10.30 p.m The Keilawarra’s crew numbered 35 all told- The total loss of life amounts to 43, made up as follows : —25 passengers of the Keilawarra, the captain and mate and eleven of the crew, and six of the crew of the Helen Nicoli, All the mates and engineers ot the Keilawarra were saved, Among the passengers who were drowned was Mrs Wilson of Brisbane, daughter of Madame Carandini, the well known vocalist. M'Grade, the Victorian jockey, was also drowned.
