PELORUS ROAD BOARD

The Pelorus Road Board met on June the 2nd. Present—Messrs J. Davies, J. Omtron, W. Dalton, D. Wilson, aud J. llornhy (in the chair). The minutes of the previous meeting were read m d confirmed. Tenders were received for falling and removing all the timber fit for saw-milling purpose s, as per advertisement,and in accordance with the provisions required rdf certain by-roads marked on the plan of Kaituna subdivision;from Mr Miles’offering 3d per hundred superficial feet for all timber come-at-able that would square eight inches now on the roads belonging tr, the Board between Havelock and the Wairau River, ss marked on tbe plans of the district or fid per hundred superficial feet for the same timber if the Board would mark off the road lines. William Kennington wrote offering 7d per hundred for all timber fit for saw-milling purposes ou the by-roads ruining through bis property in the Kaituna Valley. Proposed by Mr Davies, seconded by Mr Cameron —That as Mr Miles’ tender included all the by-roads his offer to pay 3d per hundred superliedal feet, and find the boundaries himself, be accepted, subject co the neefssary specification and conditions, and that he provide two sureties, to be approved of by the Board.—Carried Tenders for keeping river signals and clearing the track across the Wairau River bed for twelve months, according to specifications, were received from Murdoch Davies, LIS, G, 11. Watson, Ll 6. Resolved—That the tender from Mr M. Davies be accepted, as from the termination o f the previous contract. Mr John Gibson applied to the Board asking them to sanction the transfer of certain sectionl now standing against his name in the minute book, as — Sections 1 and 2 of 95, 90, and 2 of block VIII to John Leslie ; sections 90 and 97 Mr Charles Inman ; aud section 89 to Mr John Hornby. Resolved —That jthe Secretary make the necessary alterations on receipt of the proper notice from Messrs J, Leslie, C. Inman and J. Hornby. Resolved—That the necessary alterations in the rate book he made, .‘as requested by Mr Leslie, ou tbo requisite notice being received from Mr Charles Button. Resolved 'That the Inspector ascertain from the Chief Purveyor what plans will he required for the »oa 1 near de-ferred-payment lands. Proposed by Mr Hornby, seconded by Mr Davios —That the application from Messrs Parnell Bros, bo granted, provided they construct the tramway across the marl to]the satisfaction of the Inspector. Carried.

Resolved—Tlmt the quarterly contributions dun to the Picton Hospital and Charitable Aid Board be forwarded to the Secretary. Proposed by.Mr Hornby, seconded by Mr Wilson—That the Secretary write to K, T. Conol y, Ksq., M.H.K,. providing a rough plan of the proposed addition to the Havelock wharf., and pointing out the Board are afraid that any lesser sum than LtlOO will not provido the requisite improvements nee os* ary to give reasonable facility for shipping timber, and would nirgnst the opinion of Mr Fitzgerald in the Public Works Office. Blenheim, be obtained, but we hope the Minister of Publie Works will grant the small concession —Carried. Proposed by Mr Cameron, seconded by Mr Davies— That as the connection by railway between Blenheim and Nelson via Renwicktown, Kaituna, Havelock, IVlorus and Rai Valley, is of such vital importance to the district the Chairman call a public meeting to be held in the Town Hall, Havelock on Saturday eveniiiL-, the 12th inst, at 8 p.m., for the pur. pose of fully discussing the position, _ passing resolutions, and framing a petition to tlm Government against, the Tophouse rnu’o—Carried, Proposed by Mr Hornby, seconded by .Mr Dalton, That a copy nf the last resolution be forwarded to the Havelock Town Beard asking their hearty co-operation— Carried. Mr Ahern waited on tlm Board to state that he could do the necessary work required on the Wakamarina road to keep it in repair cheaper by contract than it is now being done by day work. Proposed bv Mr Wilson, seconded by Mr Davis—That tenders bo called for keeping the main road and bridle track between Canvastown and The Forks, in good repair for twelve months according to specifications and to the satisfaction of the Inspector—Carried Messrs George Rutland, C. Ilippolite, and Haensen waitcl on the Board as a deputation from the settlers stating that M r .Tulin Wilson had removed the bridge on the traspaes road through his property thusnccess Bating all the settlers? travelling a long distance round by the Wakamarina to reach tie main road, and requesting the Board to render some jassistanee toards opening the old main road between section 27 and 28, Pelorus Valley. Proposed by Mr Dalton, seconded by Mr Wilson—That the Inspector arrange to meet Mr Rutland or any other settb r interested in the road mentioned, and see what amount be can recommend the Chairman to award so that the work may not bn delayed—Carried. Resolved—That the Inspector be instructed to drive pegs where necessary to define the road on the bank of the Wakamaiina. The deputation thanked the Board for iti attention and withdrew. Resolved That the Inspector be authorised to have some.planks nailed on the wharf to prevent horses from Blipping down, Proposed by Mr Hornby seconded by Mr Davies—That the Board do now strike a rate of three farthings iti tlie £ as advertised in the Marlborough Times upon the values of rateable properties as appearing in the Valuation Roll now in force for the period of ono year commencing on the first day of March 1887, payable in one sum at the office of the Board, Havelock, on tho first day of July next. Carried. Proposed by Mr Hornby, seconded by Mr Cameron— That the Inspector be authorised to fill in any gravel-pit on the

Kaituna road, where it is necessary, to form an approach leading to a private road between sections 13 and 15, directly the proper line is defined. Carried. Resolved—That the Inspector be instructed to have a few loads of sand scattered over the Wakainarina bridge. Resolved—That ihe application from Mr John Leslie for a slaughter license be granted on his complying with the terms of the Act.

Resolved—That the Inspector be instructed to give Messrs Humphries and Climo notice to remove the tops and boughs &ij, of the tree they felled and left on the road near Mr Jordan’s. Proposed by Mr Davies, seconded by Mr Cameron —That the Inspector be instructed to prepare a plan and specification for a small bridie to be erected across tbe creek near Mr John Gibson's junior, and call for tenders by the next meeting. Carried. Resolved—That the secretary have the office windows repaired. The Board then adjourned until Wednesday the 7th day of July.
