OBITUARY

Mr HARRY CHARD The sad bows came to hand last week from Rotorua of the death of Harry Chard at the age of GI years. A son of the late Mr and Mrs R. Chard, Gibbston, the late Harry Chard wfts educated in this district and spent his early manhood in farming pursuits here. Being greatly interested in child welfare, he devoted the greater portion of his life to the work among the boys in Salvation Army homes, and had the joy of bringing to light much hidden talent for farming, arts and crafts, and music in the boys under his care. Many young men have paid a tribute to the work of their friend and counsellor. For a few years also, he was manager of the Aged Men’s Retreat at Wallaceville, where he won the love and esteem of the aged folk. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, as well as one brother, F. \V. Chard, Gibbston; and three sisters, Mrs W. 8011, Cromwell; Mrs H. Hawkes, Mas ter ton; and Mrs A. Rasmussen, Lake Hayes.
