CRICKET

A Queenstown eleven journeyed to Cardrona last week-end to play for the Burnett Shield. The weather conditions were ideal and the hospitality of the Cardrona supporters unequalled. Winning the toss, Queenstown put Cardrona in to bat first and for the first ten minutes things looked bright for Queenstown with Cardrona two wickets down for two runs. However, J. Bovett and T. Scurr made a fine stand and brought the score up to 86 before being parted. Bovett batted steadily and made 51 while Scurr kept his end up for the total of 36. For Queenstown J. Muir was the only batsman to reach double figures, and his score of 18 was the result of wellplaced shots. He hacT bad luck to be run out. The bowling on both sides was ’good. Although Cardrona scored a total of 137 runs it took them more than two and a-half hours to get them. For Cardrona T. Scurr and J. Bovett also topped the bowling averages. Indeed it was their day out. The following are the details:— QUEENSTOWN A. Curtis, played on, b. T. Scurr 5 J. Muir, run out 18 A. Lonsdale, b. T. Scurr 2 K. Shrimpton, Ibw., b. T. Scurr 0 R.
