PATRIOTIC EFFORT

NO MOEE COLLECTIONS ■ Mr Jas. Hogg, chairman of the Appeal Committee* of the Otago Patriotic Council, met the local patriotic zone committee during the holidays. He stated that there would be no more collections for patriotic purposes and he desired to thank the members of the Lakes zone, respective committees and subscribers for their very line and spontaneous effort in support of all the services during the difficult years of war.- Mr Hogg said there were ample funds available for the use of any of their forces overseas as well for the occupation troops in Japan. New Zealand had collected eight million pounds as a total war effort for patriotic purposes. Of this Otago raised the magnificent sum of £706,000. Ample funds had been reserved for the aftercare and assistance of returned servicemen.
