SALVATION ARMY CORPS ANNIVERSARY
A successful scries of anniversary meetings was hold in the Salvation Army Hall during the week-end. The meetings on Sunday were led by the Corps officers and a good attendance was registered on Sunday night. The Monday evening programme was given by local talent and included several well known Queenstown artists. Messrs McDonald and Hopwood sang two duets in good style, accompanied by Mrs McDonald at the piano. The boys ’ band was present and rendered three musical numbers which were well received. Bandsman Ralph Lane recited three humorous pieces which brought much applause. Sister V. Smith, a soldier of the Corps, played the piano very tastefully and thjj Riverton sisters rendered a camp-fire scene which was original. Capt. Roberts sang several solos and Lieut. Manson chaired the proceedings. The programme was concluded with the Benedcition, after which the Anniversary Cake was cut by Sister Mrs Milos, the oldest soldier present. Pieces of cake wore then handed round and everyone enjoyed the cake at fid. per piece. The Rev. P. Anderson, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, was present and expressed his appreciation of the proceedings. .
Before the congregation dispersed, Capt. Roberts sold by auction some ‘ ‘ tuck-boxes, J1 containing groceries and other good things, which brought good prices. Mr and Mrs Thompson of Wakatipu Courts very kindly sponsored this idea, and our thanks go to them and all who helped to make the week-end a success. ° .
