QUEENSTOWN - GLENORCHY ROAD
A letter was received from the Soulli Island Motor Union enclosing a copy of reply from the Minister of Works relative to the proposed Queenstown— Glenorchy road. It stated; “1 have to advise that I am fully cognisant of the importance of the road access to the upper end of Lake Wakatipu and I have already promised the settlers at (Jlon orchy and other interested parties that as soon as circumstances permit, the cpicstion will be closely examined, and a proposal put before the Government. As is well known to your union, a large number of important works are held in abeyance because of the demands of the war which have brought about a serious shortage of materials and manpower. Until the position cases, it is a practical impossibility to undertake such work as this. Even the question of whether the work will finally go on cannot at this juncture be determined because of the lack of trained technical staff to make the necessary analysis. You have my assurance that the work will be given full consideration at the earliest possible time.”
