ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL

* The ordinary meeting of the Arrow Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, 21th. ult. Present; His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. H. James), Crs. J. Jenkins, P. J. Goonics, E. J. Saunders, T. A. Johnston and W. J. Shaw. The Mayor reported that the Bank of New Zealand would be open in Arj rowtown each Thursday between 11 a .'in. and 12.30 p.m. The committee appointed to interview a borough tenant reported that the repairs carried out on the dwelling were satisfactory. The Supt. fire brigade wrote asking the council’s approval of J. Sanders being appointed an auxiliary fireman. — Approved. The Engineer, P.W. Dept., wrote asking for an estimate of expenditure on Main Highways for the year ending 31st March, 1012. —To be advised that no work was contemplated. The chairman, Works Committee, reported that the repairs to water race had been completed and that the dam, at the intake was erected. The report was adopted.—The town clerk was instructed to write John Burns and Co., re the purchase of two spare pipes. The grass had been cut in all streets and the dayman was now employed at the cemetery. - 4

It was resolved that the Works Committee make a tour of inspection on a certain day in each month for the purpose of inspecting work completed and to allot work for the followingmonth.

It was decided to impose a penalty of 10 per cent, on all rates not paid by March 14th.

The dayman was to be instructed that only ashes and household refuse be removed on tha appointed day.

It was decided that the town clerk’s office in future be open on Thursday instead of Friday. Accounts amounting to £O7/0/9 were passed for payment.
