MR ANDREW TORRIE.

cAi life that was intimately associated with the early history of Central Otfcgo was brought to a close on the 19th inst., with the death at, Gore 0(f Mr Andrew Torrie at the age of 86 years. Born at sea near Capetown while his parents were on the voyage from Soot* land to Victoria, Mr Torrie Later accompanied them to CJai’drona, Central Otago, in the wake of the gold rush, the trip from Dunedin to their new home being made by horse and cart via Oamaru an'd the Lindis Pass. After a spell of (mining, Mr 'Torrie’is father accumulated enough money to take up sheep farming, and eventually Mr Andrew Torrie and a brother were in charge of the ran. Following a lucky strike at mining, Mr Torrie practically retired a few years ago and spent the last few .years' of his life in retirement at Gore. His- wife predeceased him .but he is survived by a grown-un family. Mrs Galvin, pf Cardrona, is a daughter of deceased.
