COAIPLIAiENTAR Y DINNER In the evening' both teams ware entertained at a dinner in Hole! Fichardt by the Wakaupu Sub-union. Subseauently a short toast list was gone through. Mr N. A. Macdonald was chairman in place of Mr W. H. James, president of the Sub-union who was unable to be present. After the loyal toast the chairman proposed the toast of “The. Balfour Team.” fie said he had a special interest in‘the members! of the team, lor during his residence- in Balfour sonic years ago, he had the pleasure of coaching same in the game. He was particularly pleased with their performance that day. The toast was responded to by Mr A. Stewart, captain of the team. The- “Northern Sub-union” was proposed by Mr J. T. Lvnch, who referred in commendatory terms to the generosity of Mr J. L. Lindsay in presenting the cup-. Mr F. Fraser, in replying, referred to the creditable showing of the AA r akatipu team, and said that one of their members, ,R. Anderson, would go a long way in football if given the opportunity. The donor of the cup, Mr J. Lindsay, was then honoured with a toast. In proposing the toast the chairman thanked Mr Lindsay for the cup which he said would give additional interest to the comreiittons. In readying to the toast, Mr Lindsay sail that Ms- original intention was that, the Cun should be nlayed for between Wakaliou and Vincent Subbiiious at Alexandra. As- Vinecnt did not wish to come into the competition he agreed to the Northern and Wakalinu being the contestants-. He was pleased to give the cup- to stimulate interest in the game. Mr A. Stewart also spoke on behalf '-of Northern Sub-union. Other tea-Ts were “WakaTnu Team.” nrono-ed by F. Fraser and responded to by Mr C. Feebly (ca.pt): “The Referee.” Mr S. Keown responded to by Mr A. Er* •ridge: “S.R.P.TT. and (.Southland Team,” Or W. Here, responded to bv Mr A. Stewart; “The Press. ” Mr N. Forbes, re-'i-omb'd to bv Mr W. D. Warren; “The Motel Staff ” responded to by AIT Hartley-Smith and the Chairman.*- Several items wore given dunng the evening. The vidlors- wen- also entertained at a dance lin'd in the Gra'ison Hall and on Sun-lav morning they were taken on a launch trip to Hob’s Cove. Appreciation of the kindness meted out to the team was expressed by one and all.
