CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS DANCE.

The children’s fancy dress dance, arranged to provide funds for the Arrow Public School, which was held in the Athenaeum Hall on Friday evening was most successful in every way. There was a very large attendance, all jiarts of the district being represented. Close on one hundred children were present in "fancy costume, and the grand march, which was led oil' by Master Alby Johnston (nigger) and Miss Dulcie backpays ('Pierrette) was a really line sight, the many original and artistic costumes making a picturesque display. The manner in which the children went through the various dances reflected credit on the ladies who had trained them, viz., Mcsdames Ritchie, Fraser and Reed, and Misses Wilcox, Barnett, Pat- Paterson, McEntyrc, and Wilson. The music was supplied by Miss Peterson, and Mr A. Ritchie carried out the duties of M.O. During the evening a guessing competetion (the weight of a. cake) was got oil. Miss 'Betty Henderson and Messrs John Reid and Willis Shaw guessed the correct weight. The two gentlemen named retired from the contest in favour of Miss Henderson.

After the children’s dance terminated, the floor was taken by the adults, and dancing was spiritedly kept going until an early hour. The music was supplied by several ladies present, and Mr A. Ritchie was M.G.

An excellent supper was provided bv the ladies.

The School Committee desires to specially thank the ladies who trained the' children for the dances, also the head teacher (Mrs Douglas) and her assistants, and Miss Peterson for supplying music during the practices and at the dance.
