THE ALIEN CANCER

SINISTER MENACE TO ENGLAND. A momentous book has just been published. It is called ‘ The Borderland,’ and since its author is Dr Hyslop, late senior physician, Royal Bethlehem Hospital. and now president- of the psychological section of the Royal Society of Medicine, lie should know the seriousness of the subject lie is writing about (says Horace Newte in a London paper). Briefly, it deals with the deadly peril to our wholesome English race by, in the words of Dr Hyslop: The invasion of our land by hordes of aliens who mostly come as social wreckage from other lands to clog the wheels of our Constitution and to harass and impede the evolution of our race. Then lie goes on to suggest that this invasion results in hideous overcrowding, with the unnumbered evils which this entails. And that these evils react mentally upon the children, whose brains are overtaxed, and therefore enfeebled, from overteaching, with the result of “ forcing the immature brain of the child into abnormal and disastrous activity.” INSANITY AND ALCOHOLISM. Dr Hyslop further points out that a considerable proportion of these aliens are afflicted with chronic alcoholism, insanity, and certain other diseases. Even if they do not intermarry with English women they breed tainted offspring; and in any event, as the author declares, they are an ever-increasing charge upon our hospitals, charities endowed with English money, and our overcrowded lunatic asylums. To quote Dr Hyslop further : Wc quietly nurse those who, biologically viewed, are literally drinking our life-blood. ‘ The Borderland ’ impresses me the more because I read recently ‘ The Revolt Against Civilisation,’ by Lothrop Stoddart, an American writer, whose views arc the same as Dr Hyslop’s. Lothrop Stoddart declares that American, as well as English, civilisation is being slowly but ruthlessly poisoned by tho unemployable and the degenerate, who, in all too many instances, are the immigrant sweepings of Europe. PYRAMID ON ITS APEX. He further says that, whereas the best blood is ceasing to breed from economic reasons, the tainted blood does not scruple to have large families which it makes no effort to support, and that the degenerate offspring of (his tainted blood is finding the burden of a highly complex civilisation a. greater burden than they can support, with the result that they turn a willing car to Hie missioners of Socialism and Bolshevism. Thus modern society tends to become a pyramid standing on its apex; and this, as he remarks, is a scarcely desirable phenomenon. And, as a terrible illustration of tho evil wrought by tiiis tainted blood, Mr Stoddart furnishes the statistics of the notorious Jukes family. A criminal named Jukes married an evilliving woman towards the end of the eighteenth century. A record has been kept- of their many descendants, and almost without exception these descendants have been murderers, thieves, prostitutes, and receivers of stolen goods. ALIENS AND UNEMPLOYMENT. Curbing their pernicious activities, and keeping them in gaols and hospitals, has cost the taxpayers of the United States many millions of pounds, to say nothing of the moral and material harm they incidentally wrought. And to return to the subject of this article, it would seem that we have, and have had, unnumbered Jukes in our midst who are, and have been, responsible for the crying evils to which Dr Hyslop refers. A further phase of this distressing subject has to do with unemployment, and the consequent social unrest. These aliens have a lower standard of living than the Englishman, and will therefore work for lower wages, and thus throw him out of a job. The more enterprising and tho more highly skilled Englishman thereupon emigrates to other countries, with the result that the healthy stock lie would otherwise breed is lost to' this country, and its place is taken by the children of the undesirable alien. WEEDING OUT THE UNFIT. How this very urgent matter is to bo tackled is for those in high places to decide that is to say, if its seriousness is adequately realised. Birds and beasts preserve their species by a ruthless elimination of the unfit. For instance, during the breeding season the rooks go round the nests and throw out the weedy youngsters, who meet a speedy death in the cold night air. This is apparently cruel but ultimately kind, since a weakly bird could not hope to pick up a living. . But with the human species a so-called humane civilisation decrees that the weaklings shall be coddled and supported by the fit. This is apparently kind, but ultimately cruel, since the unfit are rarely happy, and curse generations yet unborn to sickness and sulieiing. . .. In conclusion, it- seems to mo that all who value the future of our race should Mve immediate and practical heed to the warnings of Dr Hyslop and Lothrop Stod-d-uT 'Otherwise, the cancer of alien immigration which is slowly sapping its vitals will destroy completely its heedless victim.
