Fire Brigade.

The annual meeting of the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held at the station on Thursday evening last. Present: Supt, Lynch, DeputySupt. Robins, Foremen Nelson and Farrant, Firemen G. Miles., A. Bryant, W. J. Farrant, Arthur Farrant,, R. Davidson, J. Summers and T. Tallentire. The minutes of last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The secretary read the audited balance sheet which showed the receipts to have been £94 10s 4d and £expenditure £3O 19s 9, leaving a credit balance of £63 10s 7d. ANNUAL REPORT. In presenting the annual report the officers would like to take the opportunity of thanking the members of the Brigade for the way in which they have attended to their duties during the past year and they hope they will still continue to do so. in the" coming year. The balance sheet shows a credit balance of £63 10s 7d, a very satisfactory state of affairs. A concert and dance (£24 4s), which was held on New Year’s night and the Saturday, night dances (£39) were the principal sources of revenue. Those who patronised these functions receive the hearty thanks of the Brigade, .as also do. the Borough Council for having placed the hall at the disposal of the brigade. The brigade entered for all the events at the Southern Disftricts’ Demo, at Alexandra last February and showed a decided imt provement on previous performances. Deputy-Supt. Robins was the delegate to. the iS.Di.F.B;iA. at Alexandra and the brigade was represented by proxy at the Rotorua Conference. The gear is in fair order, with the exception of some, of the hose, and the brigade have approached the Council for and been granted the 200 ft. of hose ordeiqed by the brigade through the |U.F.B.|A The brigade has. also purchased gear. They have on order six helmets and have made an offer in Dunedin for the purchase, of a hose reel. The brigade have received calls to three hedge tires a'nd two house fires. Unfortunately the last fire had a good hold before the Brigade arrived. But they did splendid work and were successful in preventing further damage. to property close by, and were congratulated on their smartness. The strength of the brigade at present stands at eleven, one member having recently resigned. An appointment of another member will be made shortly. The, Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent again wish to thank the Borough Council: Mr W. Mclnnis, for making a splendid job of affixing hose to coupling's; Mr Curtis for use of his “copper” for boiling tea for socials; and .all kind people who. have taken an interest in the work of the brigade during the year. T. H. TALLENTIRE, Hon. Sec. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The .following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year: Supt. U J. Lynch; Dep. Supt. 11. J. Robins; foreman: W. H. Nelson; junior foreman: A. E. Farrant; secretary and treasurer, T. H. Tatlentire. ‘The secretary was voted £3 3s for his services for the past year. The matter of a fire alanu from the terrace was discussed and it w r .as resolved to make application to. the Borough Council to see if this could be affected. His Worship the Mayor, who was at the meeting by invitation, expressed pleasure at being present, and hoped the members of the brigade would continue, to. take the same interest in the organisation as they had done in in the past.
