f BOM OVB OWW COEIBSFOH DBXI. Dunedin this day. The Hon. J. A. Millar addressed a large audience here last night. A number of Socialists frequently interrupted and a hostile motion was proposed. Mr Millar defended his action over the Blackball strike and denounced the extreme Socialists. Sir Joseph Ward came in during the speech and had a great reception. He subsequently spoke on the Government policy and criticised sharply the Socialists' demands. The Premier receives deputations and opens the Winter Show to day. The Premier says that the Government intend to put through the Absolute Majority and Second Ballot Bill this session.
Saturday's takings at the Otago British match were £636.
The local branch of the Rugby Union sent another urgent message to the New Zealand Union, Wellington, advising that if the high charges for Saturday's match are persisted in the branch will have to reconsider the position and may decline to take control of the game. There is a strong feeling everywhere against doubling the entrance fee.
Richard Cornish was yesterday committed for trial on a charge of unlawfully slaying his wife. The Magistrate condemned the deliberate suppression of evidence. Th« members of New Zealand team for the first test against Britain are expecti'd in Dunedin to-night.
