Empire Day passed very quietly, the chief feature being a parade of cadets, saluting the flag and the singing of the National Anthem. The Auckland Tramway strike is over and the men have resumed work. A special Board of Conciliation has been set up to consider the grievances. Auckland reports bad weather and shipping is therefore much delayed. A. G Elliot, the absconding bankrupt, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment The nominations for Tuapeka close to-day. There are ouly three candidates, viz.: Messrs Horn, Scott, and Dr Ohapple. . The sewage outfall at Lawyers Head was formally opened yesterday and the sewage discharged into the ocaan. There is much indignation and uneasiness in Wellington over a number of moral degenerates that haunt the city. The streets are crowded with obcene youths and the public parks are unsafe for women and children. The French President had a great reception on his arrival in London today.
