Wakatipu District Hospital.
The monthly meeting of the Trust of the Wakatipu District Hospital was held at the institution on Saturday, 9th May. Present: Messrs Gockburn (chairman), C. C. Ware, A. J. Thomson, J. W. Fraser, S. B. Pettersson, Jas Knowles. Leave of absence was granted to F. St. Omer, W. B. Hawson "and W. D. Warren.
Air J. W. Fraser, secretary of the Ministerial Reception Committee, wrote by direction enclosing the sum of £3 2s, balance after expenses in connection with the recent banquet, etc., has been paid, as a donation to thi hospital.—Received with thanks.
The resident surgeon, Dr Douglas, wrote asking for six weeks' or two months' leave of absence from some time in June if h 6 could find a mutable locum tenens.—Leave granted ou these conditions.
The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs Mason thanking her for lier valuable gifts of two dressing gowns f jr the use of patients. The matron also acknowledged donations of fruit and vegetables from the Re?. H. Packe, (Church of England Harvest Thankgiving), fruit from Mrs Geo. Gray and reading matter from Mrs Cockburn.
The surgeon's report read and received was as follows: Patients remaining on Ist May, 4 ; admitted during the month, 2; discharged, 4; remaining on Ist May, 2. Mr Knowles was appointed a member of the Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. The secretary was instructed to write to the Lake County Council asking for the use of a room in the Chambers for meetings of the Trust during the winter months on same terms as usual.
In view of the Chairman's visit to Wellington as a delegate under the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act, it was resolved to hold the next meeting of the Trust on the 4th day of June in the Lake County Council's offices at 8 p.m. Some discussion took place on the matter of conditions of leave of absence granted to the Hospital staff, and it was ultimately resolved on the motion of Messrs Ware and Pettersson that the matron and wardsman each receive three weeks' and the servant two weeks' leave of absence on full pay, annually, after being twelve months in the service.
Accounts amounting to £65 2s Id were passed for payment, these consisting of the following Salaries £4O 3s 4tf, rations £ll 8s Id, stores and furniture 10s sd, fuel and light £5 lis fid, medicine £6 ss, incidental £1 3s 7s. A vote of thanks to the chair closedi the meeting.
