The proofs of debt in bankruptcy during seven years in Otago and Southland have amounted to uo less than £963 003, and the payment to creditors in the same period to €198.781, or 4* If 1 in the £, showing an immense 10-s to the community.

With a view to this the Board has leased the house in Forth street, formerly occupied by Mr Wade and more recently by Mr Woodward, which is to be placed under the charge of one of the masters (Mr Macalister). The house and its surroundings are eminently suited for the pu r pose, and this, together with the fact that the Irovs will be under the direct supervision of one <f the staff, should be an additional inducement to parents at a istance to take advantage of tiie higher education provided by the school. Fioma letter read at the Nelson City Council it appears that a new treatment for consumption has been introduced by Mr Clapham, who wrote offering to treat a patient to be nominated bv the council, free of cost, to prove its efficacy Some of the councillors testified to Mr Claphain's success and his offer was favorably received.
