Warden's Court.

Monday, 12th October, 1885.

(Before H. S. Hickson, Esq., Warden.)

"F. Evans—Application for water-race at Skippers Creek. Granted. Young Hang's application for extended claim at Johnson's Creek was also granted. Several applications for mining leases at Skippers and Upper Shotover were adjourned for survey -until next month's sittings, except two by T. G. Pearce and F. Evans, which were granted. Friday, 16th October. Thomas F. Richards—Application for agricultural lease of 60 acres in Left-hand Branch of Skippers Creek. Mr Turton for applicant. An objection was lodged by Thomas Davidson, on behalf of himself and his partner Thomas Hope, on the grounds (1) that it was the only piece of country their run, No 313, on which they could work their sheep ; (2) that its alienation would take away the value of their run, and (3) that they had, without unnecessary interference, already allowed applicant and Mr H. Evans to use the ground in the meantime. The surveyor's report states that, in view of the objection made, and also the probable auriferous nature of the ground—which might be required for mining purposes—it was deemed undesirable to lease it for agricultural purposes. The Warden said he thought, independent of the survey report, that the objection was a very reasonable one, and he should therefore refuse to recommend the issue of certifiatc asked for.

An application by T. G. Pearce for mining lease at Skippers Reefs was adjourned for survey die. F. Evans—An application for mining lease of 16 acres (Extended Co.), west of Otago Cos lease, Skippers Creek. Granted. Mr Smith for applicant.

An application by R. Johnson, for mining lease, Upper Sholover, was further adjourned. Invincible Co. —Application for special machine site, 12-mile Creek. Rees River, adjourned from previous sitting for report as to the auriferous character of area. Granted. Mr Turton for applicant.
