After a little time spent in putting them in order, owing to Phantom being rather too lively, the flag dropped to a fine start, as far as Calumny and Batter were concerned, Phantom evidently preferring to remain where he was, as tiie other two hail gone at least a doren lengths before be made a move. Calumny cut out the running at a hot pace, closely pressed by Batter. Indeed, for some distance they were close together, Phantom doing hie best to retrieve the misfortune of the start He, however, failed to get on terms with his horses, as the loas had been too great, but what he did showed that had he got a show at the start, the race would have been a splendid one. At the top of the eoui ae turning into the straight, Calumny still tod, with Batter close up, and ponishing.
