SUMNER BATHING ACCIDENT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Concerning your report of a bathing . accident at Sumner I should liko to state (being one of the three) that I was sitting on the beach •when a young Indy got into difficulties in the water and Mr Cross went to her assistance and' also gob into trouble. I then ran. across the beach with another gentleman, and we wero out to Mr Cross and on our way hack by the time tile life saving people wore running the line out. As far as the life saving brigade are concerned, they were very late, and m your account you never mentioned the young lady, so it shows you how late they wero, and as far as I know I think, a college boy brought her to safety. During the holiday season accidents aro likely to occur very frequently, and I therefore venture to suggest that during this period someone should he always on duty at the life saving denot in readiness and to give an immediate alarm.—l am, etc.BATHER,
