PRIZE-GIVING.

FENDALTON SCHOOL. Tho annual distribution of prizes in con* neotion with tho Fondnlton School took place last Thursday afternoon in tho present* of » ropresentativo gathering of parents, friends and old pupils. Owing to tho unavoidable absence of the chairman (Mr G. fa. Royds) the prizes were presented by tho Rev N. O. White. At tho conclusion of the prize distribution, the headmaster, Mr T. Irvine, was presented with a handsome Thormos flask by the pupils of Standard VI., in recognition of the high esteem in which ho is held by tho scholars. The presentation was made by Master Edward Dowling, the senior scholar of the school, and Mr Irvine suitably responded. The whole of the scholars were conveyed to the picnic grounds in upwards of forty motor-cars, vided by the residents of the district and others. Tho annual breaking-up ceremony jmd distribution of prizes in connection with the Beckenham School took placo on Friday afternoon. A good attendance of parents and of old pupils of the school, together with the pupils of the standard classes, was proeided over by MrjW. W. Charters, chairman of tho School Committee. Dr Thacker (Mayor) and Mrs Thaoker woro iresent. Dr Thacker, in addressing those presert, congratulated tho head master and staff on the very successful year’s work. Of sixteen Standard VI. pupils presented for examination, fifteen had obtained proficiency certificates and one a competency. In reply the head master, Mr A. C. Maxwell, spoke highly of tho work of the staff and the very satisfactory result of his annual examination of tho pupils from Standard V. down the infant classes.
