Major Ulrich, who has been on the medical staff of the Christchurch Orthopaidio Hospital for some time, was, prior to his departure for Timaru, where he intends to resume private practice, presented with an illuminated address from the patients in No. 2 Ward, Military Hospital, expressing regret at his departure and appreciation of his interest taken in his patients. .Mr J. A. Fraser, Assistant Land Registrar in Christchurch, has passed the final section of tho law professional examination. Mr G. W. Skellemp, managing director of the Para Rubber Company, Ltd., returned to Christchurch yesterday from a business visit to the United States. Mr Albert Kayo returned to Christchurch yesterday from a visit to America and Great Britain. Mr A. T. Donnelly, of the firm of M. Donnelly and Son, has been admitted to partnership in the firm of Raymond, Stringer and Co. as from January 1 next. Mr Donnelly has been appointed Crown Solicitor for Canterbury during the absonco of Mr S. G. Raymond, lv.C., who is on an extended trip to England and America. At the prize-giving in connection with the Sumner School, opportunity was taken by the scholars in Standard VI. to present tho head teacher, Mr G. F. Allen, with a silver shaving mug and brush. The presentation was made by Ngaire Partridge. On behalf of the scholars of Standard V.. Mary Morrison presented tho teacher, Mr A. J. T. Withers, with handkerchiefs and a sil-ver-mounted pipe. Both recipients suitably responded. There was a very largo and representative gathering at the Tinwald Public Hall on Saturday evening to make a presentation to Mr T. Williams, who had been a resident of Tinwald for over thirty-five years, and who is new retiring and taking up his temporary residence in Christchurch, _ prior to going on an extensive holiday tour. During the evening Mr D. Tcppett, who presided, referred to the valuable work Mr Williams had dono for many years as chairman of tho Tinwald Town Board, and to his keen interest in every movement for tho good of Tinwald, and his kindly, courteous and generous disposition. Mr James Cow, on behalf of those present and the residents generally, presented Mr Williams with a solid gold watch and gold chain, with gold medal pendant. Messrs J. Clark, Charles Doherty, W. Bryant and others also testified to Mr "Williams's sterling worth and to tho good work he had dono during his long residence in Tinwald. Mr Williams suitably replied.
