COUNTRY NEWS.

RANGIORATho monthly meeting of tho Rangiora Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club was held last ovening, Mr W. A. Banks presiding over an attendance of fourteen. Seventeen new members were elected. Tho ground oommittoa reported that all arrangements had been made for tho opening of tho season on Saturday, also that the tennis courts had been much improved, and that MrJ.E. Storey nad been engaged as caretaker for tho season. It was resolved to allow tho Rangiora High School pupils tho free use of tho tennis court for practice from 3.40 to 4.30 on floclr days of tho week, excluding Thursdays, Saturdays and holidays. The treasurer reported that tho receipts for tho month had been £2l 17s 3d, and the expenditure £25 5s sd, and bank debit balance £124 16s 6<L Accounts for £37 12s lOd were passed for payment.

Tho Brass Band gave one of its popular performances at Victoria Park on Sunday afternoon, and tho music was enjoyed by a fairly numerous audience, the attendance being smaller than usual owing to the cold easterly wind blowing. Yesterday afternoon tho members of the Rangiora Patriotic Committee met at tho Borough Council Chambers and mad© a presentation to the secretary, Mr C. R. Golding, on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Tho Mayor (Mr 0. I. Jennings), in malring the presentation tostifiod to the excellent services rendered by Mr Golding to the committee, and tho pleasure it afforded tho members to have tho opportunity to show their appreciation and esteem. Ho conveyed to him the hearty congratulations of tho committee and their host wishes for a happy married life. Mr W. McGrucr also offered congratulations and felicitations, and Mr Golding made a suitable acknowledgment. The present consisted of a silver cake knifo. bread fork and crumb scoop, in a case, and a pocket wallet.
