MEAT EXPORT.
STEADY OUTPUT FROM STORES. TWENTY-TWO SHIPS IN SIGHT. [From Otra Correspondent.! WELLINGTON, October 2The Prime Minister made a statement this afternoon relative to lie present quantity of frozen meat iu store. On June 30 last the total number of 601 b car«ises in store w«is 7,934,921 and, less allocations, 7,554,1-6 net.. On September 15 the number was reduced to 6,426,630 in all, and allowing for' allocations 5,669,125 nee. That meant that during the last two and a half months the number of carcases had been reduced by 1,885,000. The Prime Minister added that were over twenty ships in _sight at present, so it would be admitted that the Dominion was getting rid of its meat at a fairly satisfactory rate; whils the" shipping position was very muui better to-day than it had been for several years past. In answer to inquiries, Mr Masscv said that the average cargo was about 90,000 carcases, and he thought there were twenty-two ships in sight. Mr Forbes asked if anything had been done about the committee of investigation to. proceed Home. ' Mr Massey replied- that it was intended to have a conference with the people interested in freezing works', both proprietory and cd-operatfve, and the decision of that conference respecting representatives and other matters was being awaited before a final decision was arrived at. He added that i Government expert would act with them.
