MAGISTRATE'S COURT
' CHRISTCHURCH. Mr S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., presided at yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Co*art. Edgar Richards, on a charge of drunkenness, was convicted and discharged, and on a charge of procuring liquor during tho currency of a prohibition order lie was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. Judgment for the amount claimed, with costs, was given for the plaintiff by default in each of the following cases:—Clark and Co. v. James Hooper, £lO 18s sd; J. H. Drummond v. Joseph Sparks, 10s; Mason. Struthers and Co., Ltd., v. W. Garmonsway, £l6 os; Rawson and Lowe v. C. T. Mills, £4; Christchurch "Press" Co., Ltd., v. John Francis Kelly, £5 lis fid; Christchurch "Prest" Co., Ltd., v. Donald Simpson, £5 16s 6d; E. Rcece, Ltd., v. F. Silcock, £2B 10s 2d. Ronald Purvis Jameson (Mr C. S. Thomas) claimed from J. E. Hoyles (Mr J. R. Cuningham) a sum of £4 17s sd, representing money alleged to have been received by defendant on plaintiff's behalf, which had not been accounted for. Plaintiff is an indent agent and the defendant had been engaged to sell on commission a patent sparking plug for motor engines. It was stated that defendant had paid 13s lOd into Conrt. After plaintiff had given evidence the caso was adjourned till Monday. Mary 1/ock (Mr A. J. Mai ley) claimed from George Gray tho sum of 30s. in respect of a large gas globe which had been broken in a room rented from the plaintiff by defendant. Judgment was given for defendant. CLAIM AND COUNTER CLAIM. George Ward Drayton (Mr W. J. Hunter) claimed £7 10a from Elizabeth Teresa Temple (Mr J. R. Cuningham) being rent alleged to be due for a shop in Colombo Street, which defendant had rented from tho plaintiff. Defendant put in a counter claim for £9 Os sd, of which £5 10s 5d was claimed for damage alleged to hare j been suffered by defendant to her stock j through plaintiff negligently and im- ! properly mending the guttering of the premises rented, and £3 10s for gas lamps and fittings alleged to have been wrongfully retained by plaintiff. Judgment was given for the plainti/? on the claim aJid counter-claim, and defendant was ordered to pay the costs on the counter-claim a& well. LYTTELTON. I A sitting of the Magistrate's. Court at Lyttelton was held yesterday, before Messrs W. C. Cleary, J.P., and F. Knights, J.P. Albert Olson was charged with tho theft of a bottle of whisky valued at 10s, from the s.s. Kittawa. Accused, who pleaded guilty, stated that he found the bottle in the hold. He was j fined £2.
