MAGISTRATE’S COURT
CHRISTCHURCH. Mr S. E. M’Carthy, S.M., presided at the Magistrate’s Cc'urt yesterday. Frederick Yere Gwatkin failed to appear in answer to a charge of being £l2 in arrears on a maintenance order to support his wife and family. Mr J. It, Gunmgham appeared for complainant, and after tho evidence had been heard, defendant was convicted and sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment, and ordered to pay two guineas solicitor’s fee, no warrant to bo issued till applied for. A variation of an order against Luke Mar noil for the support of* a ten-year-oid girl was applied for by the mother. The order stood at 8s a week, which defendant had been paying for ten years past. Mr AP Car thy said that this amount was not sufficient to support a child in these days, and increased the order to i.os a week. j i The police proceeded against William John Lilly for disobedience of a maintenance order. Defendant was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant not to be issued unless applied for. *
