SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The West Christchurch District High School Committee mot on Wednesday evening; present—Dr Chilton (chairman) and Messrs H. Holland, E. Purlano, J. Middleton, E. Inglis, H. T. Whitham and G. Barren. The chairman agreed with suggestions from members of oominitteo that something should be done to induce parents to take more interest in tho management of the school, either by attending householders' meetings or coming occasionally to the school to see the various methods of instruction in operation, and ho undertook to confer with the head master to see if arrangements could be made for visitors on certain days. The head master reported that tho attendance for the last four weeks had been satisfactory. In the primary department the roll numbers were 355 boys and 33G girls, with average attendances of 333 and 313 respectively, and in the secondary department the numbers wero 151 boys and 07 girls, with average attendances of 147 and 92. The scholars had contributed £2 4s 8d to buy material for handkerchiefs for the Lady Liverpool Association and £1 3s lOd towards tho collection on honey day. Messrs Bultitude and Middleton wore appointed a Visiting Committee. It was agreed that the chairman and the head master should make inquiries as to the possibility of supplying at a moderate figure hot soup or hot drinks to scholars coming from a considerable distance to the ttchool.
