NEWS AND NOTES. Mrs Beck nndMiss Beck are spending a short holiday at Hanmor. Mrs Setli Smith arrived in Christchurch from the north on Saturday. Mrs J. P. FirtTi (Wellington) is visiting friends in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. K. M’Donald (Timaru) are in Christchurch. Mrs Cordon Hamilton (Waihao Downs) is staying at the Clarendon. Miss Bell (Ashburton) is visiting Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Vernon returned on Saturday morning from a trip to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Bowen and Miss Freeman (Gisborne) are among visitors to this 1 city staying at Warner’s. Mr and Mrs W. T. Taaffc (Auckland) have returned to their home alter a few days spent in Christchurch. Mrs F, H. Ansley (New Brighton) has gone to Feathers ton, to be near her husband, Driver F. H. Ansley. Mrs Hansen (Hewitt’s Road, Merivale) has returned to Christchurch after a long holiday in tho North Island. Miss M. 'Tab art returned to Christchurch on Saturday from a holiday spent in the North Island. Mrs H. M’Cleland Inglis (Auckland) is the guest of Mrs J. L. Fairhurst, Pnpnnui. Miss M’George (Westport) is staying a few days with Sirs G. Cayley Robinson, Merivalo. Mrs T. Bourko (Kilbirnio, Wellington) lias returned to her home after a holiday spent in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Maurice Harper (Lake Heron) have returned to their home after a short stay in Christchurch. Miss Hood-Williams has gone to Omihi, where she is the guest of Mrs Croft. A very pleasant gathering was held at Dainties, Ltd. on Saturday, to say farewell to Mrs Watson, who had been a member of the office staff for tho past nine years. Tho manager, on behalf of the firm, presented Mrs Watson with a purse of sovereigns, and Mr A. E. Olivers, on behalf of the employees, handed her a silver-mounted Doulton salad bowl and a silver-mounted card case. Appropriate speeches were made, to which Mrs Watson suitably responded. MORNING TEA. A morning tea was given on Saturday, at Broadway’s for Mrs Steelman, the hostess being Mrs P. J. Hervey. 'Hie tables were tastefully arranged with chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. Those present were: —Mrs Taine, Mrs Cross, Mrs Knight, Mrs M’Crodie, Mrs Cooper, Mrs M’Bride, Mrs Whitson/ Mrs Mason, Mrs Ogilvie, Mrs Evans; Mrs Valentine Mrs Kendall and Mrs Bolam. SALE OF CHRYSANTHEMUMS. Mrs Holdsworth, Hoathcote Valley, has generously given permission to the Lady Liverpool Committee to cut her chrysanthemum blooms to be sold in aid of tho fund, and for this purposo a temporary stall will bo erected in Cathedral Square to-day, at which the chrysanthemums will be disposed of. The stall 1 will be in charge of Mrs Bingham, Mrs Neville and Mrs Carey. Children’s Natural Woven Combinations, long or short sleeves, sizes 2 to 7, are splendid value at 2s 6d to 3s 6d pair, and Girls’ Natural Nightdresses, lengths 36 and 44 inches, prices 8s 6d and 8s lid each are also included in the many excellent underwear values which Ballantvne’s are offering. 1989
